A Sight for Sore Eyes | Ruth Rendell |Book Review
"Looking at beauty took away pain and hurt, and made you better"
"A Sight for Sore Eyes" is a crime/mystery novel by the English author of psychological murder mysteries, Ruth Rendell. The book tells the reader about three different stories, about which the reader has no idea how they are connected. First, the story of Harriet, who displays an excessive preoccupation with herself and capitalizes on her beauty to forge her way in the world, She was married to Marc Syre. They lived as a happy couple in Orcadia Place, where Simon Alpheton portrayed them as "Marc and Harriet in Orcadia Place" in his renowned painting. As time went by, Marc and Harriet got separated, and she met Franklin, who was an admirer of "Harriet" from Alpheton's painting. They got married and moved to Orcadia Place.
Secondly, the story of Teddy Grex, a handsome young man who was born to impulsive parents and grows up completely ignored, The only people who cared about him was Mr. Chance and his wife, his neighbors. Mr. Chance taught him craftsmanship and drawing. Teddy grows into a fine craftsman who is obsessed with beauty and cleanliness.
Thirdly, the story of Francine. A beautiful young girl who had a troubled childhood. Her mother was murdered in front of her, and it caused her trauma. As she grew up, she was controlled and suppressed by her overprotective stepmother.
The book is about how these stories converge on each other, followed by a series of incidents. It surely is a top-notch thriller that provides the reader with a splendid, thrilling experience. "The Vault" is a sequel to this book.
